Harvey John are working with a globally recognisable insurance firm in their search for a Technical Accountant.

You'll be part of an experienced and growing Technical Accounting team, based in the heart of London's financial district. This is an exciting and varied role and would suit an enthusiastic, hands-on accountant perhaps looking to build on prior experience within reinsurance and insurance. With study support on offer, this position is ideal for a part qualified or new qualified individual with aspirations to grow and develop their existing Financial Services experience.

Overview of the role

• Ownership over all technical underwriting accounts and data interfaces.
• Prepare insurance / reinsurance financial account balance reconciliations.
• Ensure quality of analysis of insurance / reinsurance financial accounts to support consolidated analytics and legal entity sign off.
• Assist with preparing ceded reinsurance adjusting entries and supporting schedules.
• Calculate insurance / reinsurance financial account balance analytics (DAC, UPR, line of business, underwriting income).
• Prepare audit support for internal audit reviews and external audit.
• Coordinate with IT regarding interfaces and reconciliations between general ledger and sub-ledgers for insurance and reinsurance financial accounting.
• Support and design appropriate and sufficient controls over financial accounting processes.
• Maintain appropriate procedures and controls documentation.
• Ad hoc projects as required.

Candidate Skills & Attributes

• Part or newly qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
• 2-3 years experience within a technical accounting role
• Ideally possess a demonstrable knowledge of GAAP or IFRS
• Ceded reinsurance accounting knowledge preferred
• Strong technical, analytical, interpretive and evaluative skills
• Systems proficiency with knowledge of SAP seen as advantageous
• Excellent communication skills to maintain internal / external relationships
• A self-starter, you'll be able to demonstrate initiative and motivation within a high performing and collaborative team
• Computer skills including Excel (ideally advanced level), Outlook and Word
