A leading utilities company requires an Economist who is adept at economic modelling and analysis to join them in a pivotal role for the business. This is a leading establishment, which individuals will be familiar with, and that has a strong grasp of the South East market.

This individual will work for a specialised team who manage the relationship between the organisation and their governing body. They will lead economic modelling to support business planning, regulatory strategy and budget setting, as well as providing economic advice and modelling support to the rest of the business as required.

This individual will liaise directly with the Board of Directors and have a direct impact on key business decisions and future growth / success.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for monthly dashboard reporting for all regulatory mechanisms.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining economic models to support business decision making, including modelling SIM, ODI performance, revenue modelling, totex performance and calculation of the shadow RCV.
  • Responsible for provision of data on all regulatory incentive mechanisms in the regulatory report to governing body, including ensuring this data is audited.
  • Responsible for ongoing analysis of company's relative efficiency position, to support performance management, budget-setting and business planning.
  • Representing the business in key meetings with our economic regulator.

Suitable candidates will have:

  • A background as a professional economist or analyst in a regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of economic regulation.
  • Good academic background which is to a minimum at degree level.
  • First class modelling and analysis skills.
  • Ability to confidently use econometric software such as SPSS, Stata etc.
  • Ability to explain complex modelling and analysis to non-experts in a clear and coherent way.
  • Good report writing and presentation skills.
