You will act as the first point of reference within the Education and Skills service, supporting other areas and Directorates across the Council in relation to Skills and Enterprise. You will act as the strategic lead for Educations and Skills on the skills agenda and will lead on the West Sussex Participation/NEET Strategy.

Specifically you will:
• Support the WSCC ambition for improved skills and enterprise development for the young people of West Sussex
• Support and raise aspirations of children and young people, in particular, in relation to vocational achievement and retention
• Work with partners, especially colleges and businesses, to develop programmes to improve employability, enterprise and entrepreneurship in young people
• Influence West Sussex employers, businesses and learning providers to develop opportunities for young people and to maximise the potential of the future workforce
• Contribute to the strategic development of a local thriving economy
• Support quality assurance of collaborative 14-16 provision and advocate best practice
• Work across directorates and beyond to represent the learning voice of the Council in collaborative partnerships
• Work with providers, mainly schools and colleges, to ensure effective and appropriate careers education provision

You will provide professional leadership as the principal manager of a service area comprising of a number of teams with related activities and similar purposes which require integration & co-ordination and a substantial county wide support/advisory service. Successfully meeting defined functional objectives and providing efficient customer focused services, including realising service improvements now and in the future through resource planning, creative problem solving and managing projects and strategies.
