A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Court and Assessment Team of West Sussex Youth Offending Service as a full-time qualified Youth Justice Officer. The job will require you to undertake weekly Court and remand duties in the Youth, Adult and Crown Courts. You will assess young people’s suitability for bail supervision or community remand programmes, supervise young people subject to bail or remand programmes and write high quality assessments and reports for Court. You will undertake holistic assessments of young people to establish the risk issues which contribute to their offending behaviour, as well addressing any safeguarding or welfare needs. You will have demonstrable experience of working with children and young people as well as experience of report writing and a commitment to delivering credible sentences to the Court which optimise the outcomes for young people and reduce the use of custody. You will also have excellent interpersonal, communication and persuasion skills as well as excellent literacy, numeracy, research and analytical skills. Although this post based in Crawley, it is a county wide post and will require travel across West Sussex. You will be required to work some weekends and have a flexible approach to meeting to the needs of young people and the requirements of the service.
