My client is an independent children's therapeutic community accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists who provide therapeutic residential care and education to emotionally damaged children between the ages of 5 - 18 years of age. This is facilitated through two homes; one for younger children and one for adolescents and a DFES registered SEN school.

My client is looking to recruit a Therapeutic Home Manager to work with children who have been seriously disturbed by early environmental failure to such an extent that their corresponding behaviour is unmanageable in ordinary homes and schools. The task is to provide a highly supervised and planned environment that integrates residential care and education and is underpinned by a rigorous therapeutic model and understanding. The aim is to help children understand the impact of their pasts and corresponding behaviours and feelings. Enabling them to manage healthy relationships, through which they can achieve the trust and self-esteem essential for their eventual reintegration into the community.

Experience required:

*Experience of caring for children in a residential setting. *Experience of working with challenging behaviour. *1 years' experience within a management role. *Supervisory experience. *Ability to demonstrate knowledge of integrating psychoanalytic principles and theory into practice. *Experience of facilitating groups.

Qualifications required:

*NVQ Level 4 in Children and Young People and LMC Level 4 is required, however The Amicus Community is willing to consider applicants with only one of these qualifications providing they are willing to take up the other qualification within 3 months of commencement of post. *At least NVQ L3 in children and Young People and good standard of education to GCSE level or equivalent.

Knowledge required:

*Ability to demonstrate good knowledge of equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice. *Knowledge of the Children's Act 1989, National Minimum Standards for Children's Homes and Every Child Matters. *Ability to demonstrate knowledge of child care legislation. *Experience with and understanding of the requirement for Ofsted Inspections and the preparations around them. *Familiar with all aspects of confidentiality. *Ability to demonstrate good knowledge of child protection and safeguarding. *Knowledge of the support and understanding needed by vulnerable children and young people. *Ability to demonstrate knowledge of child development. *Knowledge of Psychodynamic Theory and working techniques. *Ability to demonstrate knowledge of key working responsibilities *Ability to demonstrate knowledge of therapeutic community/group work theory and practice.

Skills required:

*Leadership and organisational skills and an ability to lead by example. *Facilitate meetings. *Work within a team and on own initiative. *Work effectively and calmly within stressful situations. *Communicate effectively with young people in a residential environment whilst maintaining appropriate boundaries and sense of relationships often under extreme provocation. *Think creatively. *Demonstrate ability for self-reflection and understanding. *Maintain firm personnel and professional boundaries. *Negotiate and compromise. *Demonstrate good written communication skills. *Demonstrate skills or an interest in activities relevant to post - e.g. arts and crafts, sporting and outdoor activities.

Please note my client will be offering yearly performance related salary increases of up to 2.5%, offering an excellent support and training package including once a week paid for professional psychotherapy sessions.
