We currently have an Engineering role available in the Asset Management Structural Maintenance Team, within the Highways Operations Services Group. Responsible for delivering and supporting Sustainable Communities through the co-ordination and implementation of key objectives within the County, the Asset Management team covers asset management strategies, condition surveys, data analysis, investment strategies and reports; budget management, design and implementation structural maintenance schemes programmes and contract management.
You will be responsible for the provision of a professional, high quality service to our customers and the people of West Sussex. You will be expected to help deliver the effective operation of the Service by providing professional support, advice and guidance to others across the county. This will entail dealing with complex professional and technical issues within the Service area (e.g. design standards and interpretation to help formulate remedial measures) and supporting the maintenance and development of professional practices within the specialist field.
You will work proactively with our internal partners to deliver highway structural maintenance schemes ranging from programmes of small scale site specific work, and carriageway, drainage and footway maintenance schemes. This role will include assisting with the management and supervision of design consultants and the Council’s term construction contractor as nominated Supervisor (N.E.C.) and coordinating with wider stakeholders such as Members, District and Parish Councils, the Police etc.
With experience of helping to manage and monitor budgets and projects for a specific service, within a specialist technical environment, you will be expected to be self-motivated, but also able to collaborate positively with colleagues to contribute to the long term planning and review of the Service, to ensure continuous improvement and business continuity.
You will undertake regular site surveys, including checking of sites, technical interpretation and preparation of plans and drawings. You will also maintain records of work progress e.g. survey, design, estimates, checking of drawings and contract management records. Your work will also involve carrying out computer based designs using Computer Aided Design (CAD) or GIS based plan preparation. You will be required to operate appropriate IT systems, including databases and spread sheets.
You will hold a minimum of 6 GCSEs with A-C passes including Maths and English or equivalent qualification of demonstrable equivalent experience. A Degree or HNC or equivalent qualification is desirable.
